The Dance Arts Performing Group is comprised of students between the ages of 7 and 18 who love dancing and want to be more involved through additional performances and classes. This is a non-competitive group that performs at a variety of local events and locations such as retirement homes, schools, shopping malls, and festivals. Team work is emphasized. Students are divided into groups according to age, ability, and style of dance they choose. Students may try out to be in a jazz, lyrical, or hip hop dance. Students may try out for more than one dance.
Performing Group Requirements & Information:
1) Regular attendance and a positive attitude are required.
2) Students must take a 1 hour rehearsal class per week for each routine they participate in (jazz, lyrical, or hip hop - your choice) to learn their performance routine starting September 2009 through June recital 2010. The cost of each rehearsal class is a special rate of $25 per month.
3) Students in jazz and lyrical performing groups must be enrolled in one ballet or jazz class in addition to their special performance class. Ballet is highly recommended if you are aspiring to be on the competition team.
4) Students in hip hop performing group must be enrolled in one additional class (any) in addition to their special performance class.
5) Performances usually take place on Saturdays and will begin in January and average one per month through April or May. Performances may include a nursing home, shopping mall, The Spring Dance Show at Tahoma High School, an elementary school, and definitely, the Dance Arts recital. Exact dates and locations of performances will be distributed in November 2009.
6) Students in the performing group will also be invited to perform alongside the Dance Arts Competition Team in the finale for the 2010 recital!
7) Students will need to purchase a costume to wear for performances. This costume will be separate from their recital costume. We will do our best to try and use pieces the students already have or can wear for more than one routine. Because students are in a variety of classes this is not always possible for everyone. If students are in more than one performance group, they will need a costume for each.

Audition Attire
Please arrive ready to dance - hair in bun and wearing leotard/tights/jazz pants, and ballet or jazz shoes. Hip hop students where comfortable clothes you can move in and clean sneakers.
Audition Procedure
- Students will receive a number to pin on the front and back of their outfit
- Parents please wait in lobby, viewing window will be covered
- Students will be given a brief warm up/stretch, then will travel across the floor demonstrating technical skills, and finally learn a routine to be performed in groups of four
